First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

For what it's worth, I think that DR falls into the category of "wrong but not frivolous". Although the toy's features as depicted here are not creative enough to be copyrightable, the toy itself is relatively prominent. FOP-related deletion requests[edit]

Hi A1Cafel, in FOP-related deletion requests like Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Transfiguration Cathedral, Donetsk you are using boiler-plate texts where just the name of the country is adjusted. But your deletion rationales don't mention when the work was created by whom. This is in this case even more complex as the current building is a replica of a former instance of that church which was blown up in 1931. Some minimal level of research should always be done before filing FOP-related deletion requests. In your boilerplates, you are always linking to COM:FOP but never to the contry-specific FOP-sections like COM:FOP Ukraine in this case. G20 is not a one day event.[edit]

Hi, the G20 presidency is not a single day event so moving images like File:G20 Foreign Ministers Meetings - New Delhi 2023 - 000111583.jpg out of Category:2023 G20 New Delhi summit and into Category:G20 is, while strictly accurate, also removing context. The source link states "Minister Penny Wong Bilateral Meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister the Hon Melanie Joly at the G20 in New Delhi".

Note that there are other categories like Category:2017 G-20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Bonn‎, Category:2018 G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Buenos Aires‎, and Category:2018 G20 Trade and Investment Working Group in Buenos Aires‎ and a similar one would've been better.
